How TeraSky Simplified One of the Industry’s Most Complex Kubernetes Platforms

How TeraSky helped Playtika modernize its Kubernetes platform using Spectro Cloud Palette, GitOps, and automation.

Playtika is a global digital entertainment company that develops and operates some of the world’s most popular free-to-play mobile and social games. Millions of players rely on its services every day, making a reliable, scalable infrastructure critical to the business.

 

The company began its Kubernetes journey in 2016, well before Kubernetes became the industry standard. That early investment helped Playtika build a powerful platform – but after years of growth, the environment had become increasingly complex to manage.

 

The Challenge

 

Like many early Kubernetes adopters, Playtika built custom solutions because the cloud-native ecosystem simply wasn’t mature enough at the time.
Over the years, those customizations evolved into a large-scale platform spanning multiple data centers, hundreds of Kubernetes clusters, and thousands of bare-metal servers. While the platform supported the company’s growth, it also made day-to-day operations more difficult.
Provisioning a new cluster could take more than a day. Kubernetes upgrades became lengthy projects because every change had to be validated against years of custom tooling. Many operational tasks still depended on manual processes, making it harder for platform teams to move quickly and consistently.
Playtika needed a simpler operating model – one that would reduce operational overhead while supporting the next stage of growth.

 

The Solution

 

TeraSky partnered with Playtika to modernize its Kubernetes platform without disrupting the environments already supporting its gaming services.

Working closely with Playtika’s engineering teams, TeraSky helped redesign the platform to focus on automation, standardization, and GitOps. Rather than managing infrastructure with custom scripts and manual processes, the new platform uses declarative configuration stored in source control, enabling consistent, repeatable deployment and management of Kubernetes environments.

To support this transformation, TeraSky implemented centralized Kubernetes lifecycle management with Spectro Cloud Palette, standardized infrastructure provisioning using Crossplane, and introduced FluxCD as the GitOps engine. Governance and security policies were integrated into the platform using Kyverno, while supporting services such as External Secrets Operator, ExternalDNS, and observability tooling were incorporated into the standardized platform stack.

The result is a unified platform engineering model that replaces fragmented tooling with a more automated, scalable, and easier-to-manage foundation.

 

Business Impact

 

The new platform significantly improved both operational efficiency and the developer experience.
Most notably, the time required to provision a new Kubernetes cluster dropped from roughly a day and a half to about one hour, allowing engineering teams to deliver new environments much faster.
The standardized platform also reduced manual operational work, simplified cluster lifecycle management, and introduced a GitOps model where infrastructure and application changes are version-controlled and managed consistently across environments. This gives engineering teams greater visibility, stronger governance, and a more reliable deployment process.
With a modern platform engineering foundation in place, Playtika’s teams can onboard new services faster, manage infrastructure more efficiently, and continue scaling the platform that powers its global gaming portfolio.
