Rebuilding ERP for the Cloud Era

How ISCAR designed a cloud-native ERP platform to support the evolution of its global ERP environment

The Decision

ISCAR is a global leader in precision metalworking and cutting tools, supplying industries including automotive, aerospace, medical, and industrial manufacturing. Its operations span multiple regions and depend on reliable enterprise systems supporting production, logistics, finance, and business operations worldwide.
As part of its long-term digital strategy, ISCAR made a significant architectural decision: instead of modernizing an existing ERP system, the company would build a completely new platform from the ground up. The goal was to create a modern ERP system capable of scaling with global operations, supporting future integrations, and evolving alongside the business.

The Architectural Shift

Traditional ERP platforms are often monolithic systems that are difficult to scale and evolve.
ISCAR chose a different approach.
The new ERP platform was designed from the start around a cloud-native, microservices-based architecture, while continuing to work with the existing ERP backend, enabling the application platform to scale dynamically, operate across regions, and adapt to changing business requirements. The platform was engineered for resilience, elasticity, and high availability from the outset, ensuring it could support growing workloads and expanding global operations without requiring a fundamental redesign.

The Platform Foundation

TeraSky worked with ISCAR to design and implement the cloud platform that supports the new ERP system.
The environment was built to run containerized services at scale, allowing application components to scale independently while maintaining high availability across regions. The platform also provides centralized operational visibility while continuing to integrate with the existing IBM DB2 backend running on IBM i.
To ensure reliability and repeatability, the entire infrastructure was implemented as code. This allowed complete environments to be provisioned automatically, enabling development and operations teams to deploy new environments quickly and consistently as needed.

Technology Stack

Microsoft Azure • Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) • IBM DB2 on IBM i • Grafana (self-managed) • Terraform

The Impact

ISCAR now has a modern Azure-based application platform supporting the continued evolution of its ERP environment.
The containerized application architecture supports dynamic scaling across regions while maintaining high availability and performance. Infrastructure automation has significantly improved deployment consistency and reduced provisioning time, while centralized observability has strengthened operational control and reliability.
“Building a new ERP platform gave us the opportunity to rethink our architecture from the ground up,” shared ISCAR CTO Alex Epshtein. CIO Alon Ron added, “TeraSky’s expertise in cloud-native design helped us build an application platform that is scalable, resilient, and prepared for future growth.”
With a scalable, resilient foundation in place, ISCAR can continue evolving its ERP environment as its global operations and application requirements grow.
